Chief Smith has demonstrated rare management skills and dedication to his sailors while acting as Leading Culinary Specialist from 15 April to 30 August, a supervisory position normally assigned to a Senior Chief Petty Officer.

-Managed a food inventory of $80,000 in support of USS Bainbridge meal services

-Exhibited unparalleled leadership and amazing endurance as the ship was faced with preparations for FLEETEX, a Supply Management Certification, and an extended deployment in support of the Eisenhower Strike Group, as well as Fifth and Sixth Fleet areas of operations.

-Led his experienced but short-handed Food Service division to achieve a score of "Outstanding" on the Supply Management Certification (SMC).

-Prepared for the load out for the deployment in support of the Eisenhower Strike Group by maximizing available personnel and minimizing disruptions. Raised crew morale by foresight and planning which allowed for pre-deployment leaves.

-Implemented numerous innovative plans of action to constantly improve the service to the crew during his time as LCS.

-Demonstrated superb initiative with the creation of a deli style daily potato bar which increased morale on the Mess Decks by providing another meal option and reducing wait times in other lines.

-Aggressively contributed to ship's readiness by emphasizing training; zero divisional personnel delinquent in DC and 3M qualifications.

-As a member of the Command Assessment Team, CPO Smith helped improve the overall Equal Opportunity and working environment throughout the Command
