SHIP'S OIL KING AND EM01 LPO IN USS HOWARD FROM SEPTEMBER 2011 TO AUGUST 2012. GSM1 SMITH'S SKILLED LEADERSHIP ENSURED THE SAFE ONLOAD, STORAGE AND TRANSFER OF OVER 6,000,000 GALLONS OF F-76 AND 100,000 GALLONS OF JP-5 DURING OPERATIONS IN THE THIRD, FIFTH, AND SEVENTH FLEET AOR. HIS TECHNICAL ACUMEN LED TO THE TIMELY REPAIRS OF NR1 GTG, FUEL TANK GROUPS 2 AND 5 FILL VALVES, 1A GTM POWER TURBINE BRAKE, AND NR1 CPP SUCTION STRAINER. IN ADDITION, HIS SUPERIOR ENGINEERING EXPERTISE ENABLED EMERGENT REPAIRS TO A RUPTURED FUEL TANK IN THE SONAR COOLING ROOM. PETTY OFFICER SMITH'S PERSONAL INITIATIVE AND UNSWERVING DEVOTION TO DUTY REFLECTED CREDIT UPON HIMSELF AND WERE IN KEEPING WITH THE HIGHEST TRADITION OF THE UNITED STATES NAVAL SERVICE.

HIS EFFORTS CULMINATED IN THE SUCCESSFUL TRANSFER OF 900,000 GALLONS OF F-76, 34,000 GALLONS L/O, AND 56,000 GALLONS OF OIL WASTE WITH ZERO MISHAPS. HIS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS ABOARD INCLUDE FOUR SUBORDINATES RECEIVING SAILOR OF THE QUARTER AWARDS, 100% RETENTION, 70% ADVANCEMENT AND FOUR PERSONNEL ENROLLED IN COLLEGE.
