Machinist's Mate First Class Petty Officer (MM1) Surface Warfare (SW) Kathryn L. Pagendarm is recommended for the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for meritorious service while serving as ________. She was a key contributor to the success of the training mission while serving at SurgeMain NOSC, Chicago from Jul 2015 to Jul 2019.

Excellent leadership and supervision of SurgeMain Chicago. She held leadership positions including Surgemain LPO where she served as the leading point of contact for LPOs of the seven divisions that make up Surgemain Chicago. Additionally, she led the Career Development Boards of 33 sailors in addition to being the go to sailor for those transitioning to retirement, sailors transitioning from RC to AC, and reenlistment packages.

Outstanding Ambassador and Community Involvement. MM1 spent a total of 68 hours as a mentor to 25 young girls in the Enhancing Engineering Pathways Program. In addition MM1 volunteered 15 hours at a local Humane Society shelter, and renewed her Red Cross first aid and CPR certification, remaining always ready to repond in an emergency life threatening situation.

Self Challenging. MM1 balanced her Navy career with that of a full time student completing her Bachelors of Science Degree in Machinical Engineering at Northern Illinois University.

- PSNS- Shop 38. Volunteered for second shift on the USS Miami. She assisted in the reassembly of 3 accumulators and helped to troubleshoot leakage in a 4th accumulator system allowing the ship to leave drydock on schedule.

- PNSY- Shop 38. Led 2 junior sailors through small diesel motor maintenance and disassembly and reassembly for training purposes. She performed high pressure air sampling for submarine drydock services ensuring readiness for high priority maintenance. Guided her sailors to avoid making poor liberty choices.

- PNSY- Shop 99D. Completed PM's on high pressure air compressors that supply essential services to 3 occupied drydocks allowing 3 submarines to remain on schedule for availability.

MM1 Pagendarm distinguished herself with many noteworthy accomplishments. In recognition of her sustained outstanding contribution and exceptional performance, she has my strongest recommendation for award of the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

AS SLC'S MASTER TRAINING SPECIALIST COORDINATOR, MM1 NUEVES WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN DEVELOPING THE COMMAND'S CURRENT MTS INSTRUCTION RESULTING IN THE QUALIFICATION OF 5 NEW MTS QUALIFIED INSTRUCTORS. AS ASSISTANT TO THE 3MC, MM1 NUEVES SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS MERGING TOMAHAWK'S 3M PROGRAM AND SLC'S 3M PROGRAM WHICH ALLOWED FOR SLC INSTRUCTORS TO USE THE SKED PROGRAM ONLINE USING NMCI ACCOUNTING FOR 100 PERCENT MAINTENANCE ACCOUNTABILITY. 3M Work Center Supervisor for EA01 from XXXXXXX to XXXXXXX, Petty Officer XXXXXX accurately tracked and coordinated over 400 completed jobs and 300 trouble calls. His appointment as Leading Petty Officer for EA02 was a result of his hard work and dedication and ensured that the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN received the NEY Award for Food Service Excellence with an overall score of 99 percent. In addition, he assumed the role of PTV07 Zone Manager during Planned Incremental Availability, a position normally held by a Chief or First Class Petty Officer. As Valve Team Zone Manager, he led 4 personnel in ensuring proper testing and maintenance of 200 relief valves. As Leading Petty Officer for EA08, he set and enforced stringent, yet achievable, performance standards for subordinates. He trained inexperienced personnel thoroughly and expeditiously, expanding maintenance capability of the work center by 30 percent and significantly improving morale. Further, he developed an effective method in aiding newly reported personnel in understanding their role in machinery operation, troubleshooting, and repairs. Petty Officer XXXXXXX has been an inspiration and a pleasure to have in the Engineering Department. His overall administrative and technical accomplishments were outstanding.
