Served as Unmanned Underwater Vehicle and boat operator, EOD Mobile Unit 1 and Unit 11. Ensured the successful completion of two deployments with platoon 1-4-3 and two deployments with platoon 1-7-2. Trained and qualified 22 personnel and supervised or participated in 63 missions in support of the C7F Area of Operations.
His dedication, initiative and extensive knowledge as Craft Crewmember during the NSA Souda Bay Command Assessment of Readiness and Training exercise was instrumental in achieving the command's overall score of 94%.
Responsible for the daily administration, logistics, training, scheduling, and planning for 13 SWCC and two Combat Support personnel throughout 12 months of the Inter-Deployment Training Cycle. He led his detachment in the successful completion of 100 high risk training evolutions to include 2,000KM underway and the expenditure of 1.6M rounds of ammunition during 10 full mission profiles that led to their C1 deployable status.
Served as lead communicator during JCET342N to Bahia Solano, Colombia. His relentless preparation and unparalleled depth of knowledge ensured his six-man training team was never without secure communications while forward deployed to an austere location. His expertise in field-expedient antennas enabled him to train 22 members of the Grupo Especial de Accion Directa in tactical communications in a jungle environment.
While deployed to Iraq with Riverine Troop Two (RT-2) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was instrumental in the conduct of 28 clearance operations on the Shatt Al Arab and one hostage rescue operation, alongside national mission force while in southern Iraq encountering heavy enemy fire and extremely hostile conditions that resulted in the loss of four U.S. service members. While assigned to SOTF-SE, FOB Ripley, Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan, in support of CJSOTF-A, he lead nine combat operators in over 30 Key Leader Engagements. On several Shura engagements, SB1 Mason detained multiple suspected hostiles, finding that more than one were armed and disarming them, bolstering the safety of the team. He conducted seven logistical moves through highly volatile terrain historically plagued by IEDs and five combat route reconnaisance missions, during which his convoy was targeted by Indirect Mortar Fire. Furthermore, he trained 22 SEAL officers and Combat Service Support personnel in heavy weapons manipulation, navigation, and tactics, enhancing interoperability while leading other Special Operation Forces on multiple mission sets. He assisted in saving two U.S. military personnel and ten foreign nationals who were medically evacuated to FOB Ripley for injuries sustained from multiple Improvised Explosive Device detonations.
FOR EXCEPTIONALLY MERITORIOUS SERVICE WHILE SERVING AS LEADING PETTY OFFICER FOR SPECIAL BOAT UNIT 218 ASSIGINED TO SEAL TEAM EIGHTEEN FROM XXXX XXXXX THROUGH XXXX XXXX. AS LEADING PETTY OFFICER, HE DISTINGUISHED HIMSELF THROUGH EXCEPTIONAL LEADERSHIP AND PLANNING, ORGANINIZING, AND MANAGING MULTIPLE REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAINING. HIS SUPERIOR TECHINICAL EXPERTISE IN MARITIME TACTICS GREATLY CONTRIBUTED TO THE SUCCESSFUL TRAINING OF OVER THIRTY PERSONNEL INCLUDING A DEPLOYING SWCC DETACHMENT. IN ADDITION, THIS TRAINING INCREASED SEAL TEAM EIGHTEEN OPERATIONAL CAPACITIES AND RESULTED IN OVER 20 NEW CHIEF ENGINEER AND COXSWAIN QUALIFICATIONS, INCREASING MISSION READINESS.
Participated in actions leading to raids of 35 pirate ships along the Somalia coast. Durning operations, Special Boat Operator Third Class performed duties outside his designated job and assumed secondary duties and responsibilities as the team Gunner's Mate and maintained all arms and ammunition.
LEADING PETTY OFFICER AND LEAD INSTRUCTOR FOR CNT-001-FY-XX COASTAL NAVIGATION/BOAT OPERATIONS, FROM XXXXX XXXX TO XXXXXX XXXXX. PETTY OFFICER SAILOR INSTRUCTED OVER 900 MAN-HOURS OF COUNTER NARCOTICS TRAINING AND SUPERVISED SEVEN HIGH RISK TRAINING EVOLUTIONS WITH ZERO INCIDENTS. HIS TIRELESS EFFORTS INCREASED 17 MEXICAN NAVAL COMMANDOS' READINESS IN SUPPORT OF OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.
