Provided outstanding service as Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA) for Naval Medical Center San Diego, California from December 2012 to August 2015.
Petty Officer Margo contributed to the command VITA team's expeditious and accurate processing of 1,100 Federal and State tax returns amounting to $1,900,000 in refunds to staff and their family members. This benefited the taxpayers of the command with a cost-avoidance of $180,000 in tax preparation costs.
Additionally, as the NAF El Centro Volunteer Income Tax Assistant representative he completed tax preparations for 70 Sailors netting $77,000 in returns.
He served active duty, reserve, and retired personnel in preparing tax returns that resulted in the return of more than $200,000.
His exceptional efforts to go above and beyond the call of duty led him to volunteer as a VITA command coordinator assisting NAVSTA Great Lakes VITA program with over 2,500 families resulting in $2.2 million in tax returns processed.
AS A VOLUNTEER FOR THE VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE OFFICE PEARL HARBOR, HE HELPED TRAIN 3 VOLUNTEERS AND ENSURED THAT ALL CUSTOMERS RECEIVED THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF SERVICE. HE ASSISTED IN PREPARING OVER 700 TAX RETURNS RESULTING IN REFUNDS OF IN EXCESS OF 2 MILLION DOLLARS.
Dedicated off-duty time for FY 2017 VITA team and was responsible for $37,000 in returns with no errors or rejections.
