Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse
Served as Nurse Anesthetist for Fleet Surgical Team Two. As the sole anesthesia provider deployed with over 4,000 Marines and Sailors, provided optimum operational capability for six operating rooms in support of 5th and 6th Fleet. Ensured peak medical operational readiness and zero mishaps during 31 general anesthetic cases/procedures for USS Kearsarge ARG. Provided training for MEU and Medical and Aviation Officers in emergency anesthetic techniques in preparation for trauma patients involving coalition forces.
LTJG Ocampo served as one of only two Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurses, providing over 180 hours of direct patient care on 90 critical post-operative patients. As a PACU nurse, she was responsible for developing operating room policies that increased surgical capacity during the COVID surge. Her efforts led to the hospital being able to treat and manage 20% more patients.
Responded to six code blue emergencies and assisted in the resuscitation and transfer of patients to the next level of care. Continuously trained and mentored six junior Sailors and two of his peers in multiple facets of Anesthesia care that increased confidence and professionalism in their responsibilities. Led and maintained PQS completion for seven technicians. As the point of care testing coordinator, trained 140 members on eight portable chemistry testing devices including I-stat and glucometer usage. His efforts significantly ensured the success of the Department's daily operations.
As Post Anesthesia Charge corpsman, led three Sailors in daily operations in support of 13,500 beneficiaries, contributing to a customer satisfaction rating increase from 84% to 94%.
Leading Petty Officer, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Directorate of Surgical Services, Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune. Developed and implemented a new PQS, orientation package, department Safety SOP, and a department SDS binder. Maintained 18 training records.
