PETTY OFFICER NUEVES PERFORMED HIS DUTIES IN AN EXEMPLARY AND HIGHLY PROFESSIONAL MANNER. DISPLAYING SUPERB ATTENTION TO DETAIL, HE PLAYED A VITAL ROLE IN THE DIAGNOSIS, OVERHAUL, AND COMPLETE REPAIR OF 40 ELECTRIC MOTORS AND PUMPS, TWO OF WHICH WHERE REACTOR EXHAUST GLAND MOTORS, TWO JP-5 REFUELING PUMPS, ONE SEA WATER CIRCULATION PUMP FOR NUMBER TEN A/C PLANT AND VARIOUS VENTILATION SYSTEMS MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR THE SHIP TO GET UNDERWAY AND IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND COMFORT FOR SAILORS ONBOARD USS GEORGE WASHINGTON. ADDITIONALLY, AS AN ELECTRICAL MOTOR REWIND TECHNICIAN PETTY OFICER NUEVES WAS ABLE TO SAVE THE NAVY $230,000 OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS. HIS SINGLE HANDED EFFORTS AS CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS BARGE ELECTRICIAN RESULTED IN CHEASPEAKE'S SUCCESSFUL DRY DOCK PERIOD IN 2011 WHEN HE OVERHAULED THE ENTIRE NAVIGATION SYSTEM, REPLACING THE OUTDATED GARMIN MARINE GPS WITH A NEW MORE EFFICIENT NAVIGATION SYSTEM. THESE EFFORTS SAVED THE NAVY $15K IN REPAIR COSTS. CHIEF ROBERTS' EFFORTS DIRECTLY IMPACTED THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF PRE-COMMISSIONING CREW TRAINING, CERTIFICATION, TESTING, AND OUTFITTING OF NEW CONSTRUCTION PHASES I/II/III/IV, BUILDERS TRIALS, ACCEPTANCE TRIALS, FINAL CONTRACT TRIALS, BOARD OF INSPECTION AND SURVEY, POST SHAKEDOWN AVAILABILITY, LIGHT OFF ASSESSMENT, BASIC PHASE AND PORTLAND 2022 DEPLOYMENT. HE LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR THE MATERIAL MAINTENANCE AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAM WHICH RESULTED IN A SUCCESSFUL 3M ASSESSMENT. IN ADDITION, HE OVERSAW THE URINALYSIS PROGRAM AND SERVED AS COMMAND FINANCIAL SPECIALIST, ASSISTANT COMMAND FITNESS LEADER, AND TRANSPORTATION INCENTIVE PROGRAM AUTHORIZING OFFICER. An Electrician for the Outside Electrical Shop at TRIDENT Refit Facility, Kings Bay, from August 2009 to February 2012. Petty Officer Jones consistently performed his demanding duties in an exemplary and highly professional and effective manner. His exceptional enthusiasm, outstanding technical expertise, and superb leadership skills enabled the safe and timely implementation of labeling in the Lay Down Management Plan. He maintained a high degree of operational readiness and provided TRIREFFAC’s Pier Master with an efficient drainage system. In addition, his efforts resulted in a cost savings of 200,000 dollars in stripping, resurfacing, and painting of the road surface fire lanes. Petty Officer Jones led repairs to three 440 volt portable emergency diesel generators that were inoperative for over nine months. With no known electrical schematic, he developed his own to successfully troubleshoot and repair all three generators. His efforts saved more than 250,000 dollars in contract labor costs. Further, he overhauled and replaced the Secondary Propulsion Motor cables onboard USS Wyoming, returning the ship to a full mission capable status in minimal time. Finally, Petty Officer Jones was directly responsible for repairing 30 golf carts, two electrical motors, and two AC units to support TRIDENT Refit Facilities work force. His repairs made TRF a more comfortable and effective workplace.
