Gas Turbine System Technician - Electrical (GSE)
FOR PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT IN THE PERFORMANCE OF HIS DUTIES WHILE SERVING AS LANDING CRAFT, AIR CUSHION (LCAC) MAINTENANCE PERSON AND ASSAULT CRAFT UNIT FOUR WHILE ASSIGNED TO USS FORT McHENRY (LSD 43) FROM OCTOBER 2015 TO MARCH 2016. PETTY OFFICER GUSTAV'S OUTSTANDING INITIATIVE AND DILIGENT EFFORTS WERE EXEMPLARY. DEMONSTRATING OUTSTANDING TECHNICAL SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE, HE COMPLETED MORE THAN 60 ELECTRICAL REPAIRS ON THREE ASSIGNED LCACS. THESE REPAIRS INCLUDED A GENERATOR CHANGEOUT, AN M/E ELECTRICAL HARNESS CHANGEOUT, AND THE RESOLUTION OF NUMEROUS CONTROL AND PARAMETER SENSING ANOMALIES. HIS PROFESSIONALISM DURING TIME SENSITIVE, REAL WORLD OPERATIONS DIRECTLY CONTRIBUTED TO THE DETACHMENT'S MISSION ACCOMPLISHMENT DURING AN ARDUOUS DEPLOYMENT. PETTY OFFICER GUSTAV'S PROFESSIONAL ABILITY, LOYAL DEVOTION TO DUTY, AND EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE REFLECTED CREDIT UPON HIMSELF AND WERE IN THE KEEPING WITH THE HIGHEST TRADITIONS OF THE UNITED STATES NAVAL SERVICE.
WHILE IN DEWEY HE WAS ESSENTIAL IN THE COMMAND THROUGHOUT THE ARDUOUS INTITIAL PHASE OF OUTFITTING AND DELIVERY. AS COMMAND SPONSOR COORDINATOR DURING THE INITIAL OUTFITTING, HE PERSONALLY STARTED THE COMMAND SPONSOR PROGRAM, AND INITIATED CONTACT WITH OVER 40 PERCENT OF DEWEY'S PRE-COMMISSIONING CREW, PROVIDING THEM WITH SUPPORT AND ESTABLISHING EXCEPTIONAL ESPRIT DE CORP. HE ESTABLISHED AND DEVELOPED MANY OF DEWEY'S ADMINISTRATIVE PROGRAMS INCLUDING COMMAND FITNESS PROGRAM, LUBE OIL AND FUEL OIL QUALITY MANAGEMENT, AND SPONSOR PROGRAM. AS THE ASSISTANT MATERIALS OFFICER, PETTY OFFICER SMITH WAS TRUSTED WITH THE INSPECTION OF OVER 300 INSPECTIONS, COVERING NEARLY ALL DEWEY SPACES, ENSURING A QUALITY PRODUCT FROM NORTHRUP GRUMMAN SHIP SYSTEMS. IN ADDITION, HE MANAGED THE EB14 WORKCENTER AND SAFELY TRANSFERRED OVER ONE MILLION GALLONS OF F76 AND JP5 FUEL, SETTING THE STANDARD FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW. HIS RELENTLESS EFFORTS WERE VITAL TO MISSION ACCOMPLISHMENT AND REFLECTED CREDIT UPON HIMSELF AND WERE IN KEEPING WITH THE HIGHEST TRADITIONS OF THE UNITED STATES NAVAL SERVICE.
MERITORIOUS SERVICE WHILE SERVING AS PUBLIC WORKS LEADING CHIEF PETTY OFFICER, EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT, NAVAL AIR STATION CORPUS CHRISTI (NASCC) FROM APRIL 2014 TO AUGUST 2016. DEMONSTRATING OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONALISM, TECHNICAL EXPERTISE AND DEDICATION TO DUTY, CHIEF JOHNSON CONTRIBUTED GREATLY TO THE OVERALL MISSION ACOMPLISHMENT OF THIS HIGHLY DIVERSIFIED DIVISION. HIS ABILITY TO MOTIVATE AND TRAIN SAILORS OF DIFFERENT RATINGS IN THE SEABEE FIELD CONTRIBUTED TO THE REPAIR, MODIFICATION, IMPROVEMENT, OR COMPLETION OF OVER 200 CONSTRUCTION AND SELF HELP PROJECTS FOR 11 TENANT COMMANDS ONBOARD NASCC AND SAVED THE NAVY OVER $300,000. CHIEF JOHNSON'S SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE OF HIS DUTIES REFLECTED CREDIT UPON HIMSELF AND WERE IN THE KEEPING WITH THE HIGHEST TRADITIONS OF THE UNITED STATES NAVAL SERVICE.
