Deck Department Evals


DECK DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE MAN. BM2 completed over 600 hours of planned maintenance on seven 34-foot patrol boats ensuring a high state of readiness. While maintaining the proper equipment at all times for the safety and essential readiness for over 45 unit missions. BM2 maintains boat equipment valued at over $25,000 in three different ISUs, accounting for all items with a very organized and professional appearance.




LEADERSHIP -As Deck Department ALPO, supervised 7 Junior Sailors completing 715 maintenance hours ensuring the unit's 7 Patrol Boats worth over 3 million dollars were equipped and mission ready in support of Operation Noble Eagle. BM1 managed and coordinated the facilities maintenance of all squadron spaces utilizing 54 junior personnel.

PERSONNEL ACCOMPLISHMENT -Since checking on board with Coastal Riverine Squadron 1, BM1 has completed all required courses and qualified as Expeditionary Warfare Specialist. During work ups, BM1 qualified as Crewman assisting the unit in getting the required 8 boat crews and helping the unit pass its FEP with a 94%.




Served as Leading Petty Officer for Second Division for Deck Department. While leading 33 sailors through SAR 1.4 and MOB-S 1.3, he perfectly managed their tasking, completion, and training while scoring a phenomenal 94% on certification on each respectively, effectively increasing ship's readiness. His effective training methods assisted with 22 sailors underway qualifications increasing watch bills readiness by 80%.




Leading Petty Officer and acting Departmental Chief for USS Denver LPD 9 Deck Department in direct support of operations. PO1's leadership and steadfast commitment contributed to the highest standards of mission readiness in all operational aspects. He managed nine divisional personnel and encouraged and mentored newly indoctrinated sailors to excel individually. As a result there were 0% PFA failures; 100% advancement exam participation; three advancements; 95% Retention rate of eligible personnel; and 100% individual medical readiness. His leadership fueled members' exemplary performance resulting in 8 of 9 sailors supporting COMREL events city wide, providing an estimated 3100 man-hours of operational support and resulting in four Letters of Commendation (LOC) from the parent command.




As LPO of Deck Department, BM1 led 11 Sailors in the safe execution of 34 precision anchorages and 17 restricted water transits. In addition, she supervised 66 helicopter landings and the refueling of 4,000 gallons of JP5 to two MH-60 Helos. As Departmental 3MA, BM1 oversaw 1600 pieces of equipment, ensuring zero discrepancies during the 3M 1.0-1.4 inspection. As crane safety, BM1 supervised 875,000 lbs of stores and equipment saving the Navy $1.4 Million dollars.




Serving as an essential component of the deck department team, he contributed to the successful execution of nine well deck operations, two refuelings, three alongsides, 29 vehicle movements, and the secure movement of more than 500 personnel for Operation MARARA 2022 aboard LCU 1630. As a deckhand on LC1630, he completed 426 hours of preventative and corrective maintenance checks on vital deck equipment, including the mask, bow ramp, P-100, stern gate, EBAC, and MK-1s.




Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer, BMCS passionately led his Sailors and challenged them to develop personally and professionally. He showed unparalleled commitment to the USS John P. Murtha and has been the embodiment of the ship's motto, "Make a Difference". He not only fostered the growth of his subordinates, but mentored and educated his Division Officers and provided invaluable assistance and support to his Department Head.

UNMATCHED LEADERSHIP. Since checking on board, his tireless commitment to excellence has spread to his Sailors and fostered a culture of success. Under his direct guidance and mentorship, his Sailors received nine Bluejacket, Junior Sailor, Sailor, and Senior Sailor of the Quarter Awards, three Sailor of the Year Awards, five Meritorious Advancements, a 92% retention rate, and 13 Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualifications. Leads by example, bringing out the best in his subordinates and fostering the growth of Deck Department as a whole.

TRAINING EXPERT. BMCS spearheaded an arduous training plan and path to certification that ensured Deck Department would be mission ready upon exiting the yards and starting Basic Phase. He took on responsibilities beyond his pay grade and coordinated with ATG and TYCOM inspectors for all events for RE-6, MOB-S, and SAR. His understanding of equipment and the training cycle significantly impacted the results of all inspections, and resulted in Deck Department being the standard that other ships on the waterfront should follow.




Deck Department Leading Seaman and Assistant Departmental Training Petty Officer. As the assistant departmental Training Petty Officer, BMSA took on the monumental task of constructing 47 departmental training jackets thereby allowing for comprehensive tracking of qualifications and achievements for each sailor. At the same time, she was assigned TAD onboard LPD-17, where she quickly became a vital asset in the maintenance, preservation, and cleanliness of the ship throughout the course of their INSURV preparations.
