Mother Infant Care Center (MICC) Evals


As General Duty Corpsman, Mother Infant Care Center, U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa, Japan, Hospitalman Johnson led six sailors in providing exceptional care by assisting in over 1,200 deliveries, 202 caesarean sections, 900 Patient assessments and 109 newborn screenings. As command assessment team member, he assisted with data collation and facilitated five focus groups contributing to improved command climate. Additionally, his dedication to customer service garnered 14 patient compliments.




- While serving as a staff OB/GYN, she performed 138 obstetrical deliveries, 77 cesarean deliveries, 49 gynecologic surgeries and 2,133 outpatient encounters generating 9,123 Relative Value Units (RVUs) valued at $345,788 exceeding the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) industry standard by three percent.

- As a clinical innovator, she remodeled and implemented a more succinct prenatal flowsheet to assimilate prenatal care practices, improve clinic efficiency and ensure safe and effective patient care throughout the product line with an average command savings of $1200 annually.

- She instituted a new patient questionnaire for postpartum and gynecologic outpatient encounters to ensure concise and complete information transfer thereby increasing patient safety. Also streamlined the review process for emergency department referrals to optimize the utilization of outpatient OB/GYN clinic appointments which reduced the patient wait time by 20 percent.

- As the senior medical officer, she coordinated with the Mother Infant Care Center and Central Sterile Processing Division for process improvement which ensured proper labeling and organization of infant delivery forceps and equipment availability during urgent/emergent delivery situations.

- In conjunction with the Japanese Intern Program, presented lectures on "Birth Injuries" and "Diagnostic Imaging in Pregnancy" to as part of their academic program.

- As the watchbill coordinator during a period of reduced staffing, organized duty and clinic schedules for six physicians, providing 19 weeks of cross level support which increased patient safety by reducing provider fatigue and ensured access to care standards were maintained.

- Via the command mentorship program, provided 70 hours of guidance, hands-on clinical experience and career advice for a surgical technician with plans to apply to medical school and pursue obstetrics and gynecology.

- Under direction of the Quality Management Department, performed a Quality of Care Review to ensure the standards of medical care were met by the obstetrics and gynecology department.

- Under direction of the commanding officer at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, performed a specialty review to assist US Government attorneys in preparing the defense of a medical malpractice claim.




Member created individual training folders and binders to help properly maintain staff-completed training competencies to ensure that the MICC unit was 100% compliant with requirements for records during the Joint Survey inspection. Member volunteered 48 hours of off-duty time to assist in the organization and placement of new equipment to help stock the MICC unit on the new Camp Foster Hospital Facility in their appropriate place before transitioning.
