Respiratory Therapist Evals
Deployed as part of Medical Response Team #3 to Wenatchee, WA and was assigned to Confluence Regional Healthcare system as a Respiratory Technician. The hospital services beneficiaries in an area equivalent to the size of Maryland. HM2 provided over 190 hours of expert Respiratory Technician care to over 300 emergent and critically ill adult and pediatric patients. HM2 was a critical asset during two patient Code Blue responses, provided airway management and assisted the Physicians in attempts to revive the patients. HM2 was crucial to reversing a staffing shortage within the respiratory therapy department, his presence increased the department's capabilities by 40%.
In response to Val Verde county's 1,790 cumulative Covid-19 cases, HM1 augmented VVRMC's RT Department, providing 234 hours of patient care. She responded to 11 emergency codes, 13 RRTs, assisted in 18 intubations, six ETT exchanges, initiated 33 SBTs, completed 35 ventilator transports, drew 104 arterial blood gases, and administered respiratory medications and supplemental oxygen. Her dedication to safety was instrumental during the improvement and implementation of standard procedures for donning and doffing of PPE and directional flow within isolation areas and led to enhanced awarenss for the 500 staff and minimized Covid-19 exposure.
Respiratory Training Officer, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). During a critical staffing shortage, volunteered to cross train in the NICU which resulted in 100% compliance with Resiratory manning levels. Identified a need to train respiratory staff and created a training program for 13 staff enabling them to function in the NICU during staffing shortages.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, HM2 supported the newly commissioned USS Tripoli aboard for her first sail around to their homeport in San Diego. As a respiratory therapist, she supported 994 sailors for COVID-19 prevention efforts, resulting in zero positive cases aboard.
As Respiratory Therapist, provided 5,200 hours of coverage, responded to three labor and delivery cesarean hospital alerts, performed one critical pulmonary function test, helped coordinate and order five BiPAPs for Law of Armed Conflict patients, transcribed CPAP data 12 times, updating the patient record SF 600s, and created a CPAP SF 600 respiratory technician data transcription.
As Respiratory Therapist, he provided exceptional care to over 5,000 patients while stationed at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Taught critical care ventilator modalities to 100 staff members to include doctors, physician assistants, nurses, and corpsmen. Was an integral part of a life saving team which treated over 5,000 active duty, retired, and dependent patients.
As a Respiratory Therapist assistant during the covid-19 pandemic, Petty Officer Third Class exhibited profound adaptivity, superb initative, and unparalleled work ethic that contributed significantly to supplment the loss of respiratory therapists on the USNS Comfort.
HM3 demonstrated inspirational teamwork within the 93-bed facility. As the Respiratory Technician responsible for the airway, she led the team in proning 57 patients, which in this position, improves oxygenation and gas exchange.
