WHEN THE ARLEIGH BURKE SUFFERED A MAJOR CASUALTY TO THE MECHANICAL SEAL ON THE PORT SHAFT DURING DEFENSE IN DEPTH OPERATIONS IN THE GULF OF ADEN, PETTY OFFICER SAILOR TOOK IMMEDIATE ACTION. HE COORDINATED WITH PEERS ABOARD AND ASHORE OVER 72 HOURS TO DEVELOP AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION AND ASSISTED IN THE REPAIR AND RESTORATION OF ARLEIGH BURKE'S ENGINEERING COMBAT ELEMENT TO FULL MISSION CAPABILITY, RETURNING ARLEIGH BURKE TO A HIGH STATE OF READINESS. THROUGH HER METICULOUS ATTENTION AND HARD WORK SHE MAINTAINED AND REPAIRED 4 LM2500 MAIN PROPULSION TURBINES AND THEIR SUPPORT SYSTEMS, 3 ALLISON 501-K17 GENERATOR SETS IN AN EXPEDITIOUS MANNER DURING SRA-11 ASSISTING WITH THE MAIN REDUCTION GEAR INSPECTION ENSURING PRINCETON COULD MEET ALL OPERATIONAL COMMITMENTS FOLLOWING HER SHIP YARD PERIOD. IN ADDITION, SHE FLAWLESSLY COMPLETED 42 HOT AND COLD CHECKS ON THE SHIP'S MAIN ENGINE ROOM AND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT. HER ACTIONS LED TO THE SHIP'S SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF LIGHT OFF ASSESSMENT (LOA) WITH AN EXTRAORDINARY 95% COMPLETION RATE DURING LOA AND, AS FAST ACTION RESPONSE TEAM MEMBER, CONTRIBUTED TO A SUCCESFUL COMPLETION OF EOC. HE ALSO LEAD OVER 20 PERSONNEL IN THE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF 40 LIFT FAN BEARINGS, 30 LIFT FAN REFURBISHMENTS, 8 LIFT FAN CHANGE OUTS, 3 PROPELLER SUPPORT SHROUDS, 2 PROPELLER SUPPORT SHAFTS, 2 PROPELLERS AND 1 FORWARD OFFSET GEARBOX, SAVING THE NAVY IN EXCESS OF 10 MILLION DOLLARS IN CONTRACTOR COSTS. HE ALSO SERVED AS R-2 DIVISIONAL CAREER COUNSELOR AND PROCESSED 26 PERFORM TO SERVE APPLICATIONS, 21 REENLISTMENTS, AND 1 RETIREMENT PACKAGE.
